Claudio, Daniela, Paolo, Simona, Bruna and Luigi left this morning, 31 August 2012 for Italy after a beautiful experience in Malawi. Manuel and Nadia will leave Saturday, 1 September. Claudio shared his long experience with Andiamo Youth Cooperative with us:
“It was in 2005 when I came for the first time in Balaka, thanks to Franco Fiorina who told me about Malawi and Father Mario Pacifici who welcomed me here. The same year I organized the event “3 days of music for Africa” in Lozio (BS), Italy, where Alleluya Band performed. From that time I have always come to Malawi. By the way I also decided with my wife Ada to marry here in 2008”
Claudio Canossi, himself an expert plumber, manager of Beca Impianti and President of the Association “Amici della Natura” (Friends of the nature) has supported many of the projects of Andiamo Youth Cooperative.
In 2005 he participated in the beginning of the works for the realization of Andiamo Education Campus and cooperated in sending structures that we used to erect the school’s cafeteria. In 2006 delivered a plumbing course for the workers of the Cooperative.
Not only that, he helped in the solar panel scheme of the Volunteer House and many other plumbing projects all around Balaka. Together with his technical support he has been bringing plumbing materials worth thousands of Euros (€).
Most recently, he has already worked on a solar panel that will make the new girls’ hostel have warm water. We thank him this.
“I would like to promote a kind of Social Tourism through “Amici della Natura Association” so that many other visitors could come and appreciate the natural sites of Malawi and especially his social and cultural value,” he adds.
This year he came with three friends: Paolo, Simona and Daniela. Paolo, a Design Engineer helped him in the mapping of the plumbing scheme of Kankao Orphanage and realized a proposal for the optimization of the project. Daniela, a tailor, delivered a tailoring course to Tiwonge Mkandawire, Head Teacher for Tiyende Women in Development School and promised to sew some of the new costumes for Alleluya Band members while Simona, a physiotherapist, used her professionalism to different children in difficulties.
With them, the veteran volunteers Bruna and Luigi also left. While in Malawi Bruna helped in the Volunteer House, cleaning, sewing, cooking and always taking care of all the volunteers and local workers.
Luigi, her husband repaired many things, maintained the carpentry machines of the School Carpentry workshops and many others. Together they brought the big Bell to Andiamo Education Institutions, which will stress the time for the all activities.
Manuel and Nadia who leave tomorrow participated in the fitting of the Kankao Orphanage purifier and at Mbera Hospital respectively. The time that Nadia was here, she helped three women give birth.
