Death has been announced of the Bishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe, Right Reverend Felix Eugenio Mkhori. According to the Catholic Secretariat of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) Bishop Mkhori passed away early this morning (27 October 2012) at Mwayi Wathu Private Hospital in Blantyre, having been admitted at the same hospital on 13 October 2012.
Bishop Mkhori was one of the bishops who authored the famous pastoral letter “Living our faith” that spoke the ills of one party government of Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda.
Bishop Mkhori was born on 24th August 1931, and ordained priest on 8th September 1961. He was consecrated Bishop on 8th January 1978 and served as Bishop of Chikhwawa until 23rd January 2001 when he became Bishop of the Diocese of Lilongwe. He retired from the pastoral office of Bishop of Lilongwe on 4th July, in 2007 and lived in St. Montfort, Nchalo until the time of his departure.
The press statement signed by Fr. George Buleya states that burial of the late Bishop Mkhori will be on Wednesday, 31st October 2012 at Chikhwawa Cathedral starting with Holy Mass at 9:30 am. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
