A Baby in an Incubator getting better

On 19th June Comfort clinics got a referral case from Balaka District hospital, Chisomo Mataka of Kwitanda village who gave birth to a physiological jaundiced baby boy on 14th June. Jaundice is a common and usually harmless condition in newborn infants. The baby was put in an incubator where he was also under phototherapy treatment.

The good news this morning- the baby’s skin turned from yellow to normal and was immediately discharged from the incubator. Meanwhile, to ensure physiological and psychological warmth and bonding the baby is held in Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) technique; direct skin to skin contact with his mother seeking to provide restored closeness of the newborn.

“The kangaroo position provides ready access to nourishment and stabilizes the neonate’s temperature more smoothly” reports Cynthia Nkando; a focal person in the KMC ward.
