A Visa to Russia, Ukraine, Kenya from Athletics

The Athletics Association of Malawi (AAM) in collaboration with the Sports council of Malawi on the 29th June engaged different secondary school students into several races. The races took place at CHirunga Ground in Zomba. They organized consolation prizes in cash and the winners at the competition proceeding to Russia, Ukraine and Kenya for international competition.

Eneles Aufi of Andiamo finished first in the 3000m race and carted away with MK10000. Gift Chikuse finished second in the finals of 100m race. She hence qualified for a visa to Kenya but we have not received a notification from the judges yet. James Eric finished seventh in the 300m men race.

Something distastefully and dramatic happened in the finals. Both Rhoda Maxison and Pangani Nyakungwa collapsed few yards before the finishing lines in their respective 100m finals.

“At that moment I felt like an air ticket I merited slipping away, but later I learnt to understand” says Rhoda accepting her bad day.
