Agostino and other Volunteers: During Dinner

Today the 5th of September marks one of the noteworthy days in Andiamo Trust’s diary, for Alleluya Band and Fr. Mario have returned from the tour in Italy and Brazil. So as usual we threw a dinner togethertonight celebrating with volunteers; Nadia, Claudio, Valentina, Maurizio, Andrea, Stefania, Mauro  and Diana who have come along with Padre Mario.

In return Gogo Anna Kunchezera poetically lauded the unfading vision and spirit Fr. Mario has planted in Andiamo; helping the poor and lame.

Mayi Vale leaves for Italy

At last the Human resource coordinator; Valeria Giassi sets off for Italy today, 28 August.

Among other purposes, she times her trip to attend  some of the last Alleluya band’s shows that will be in her home town and most importantly be with her family.

Flashback: Donatella teaching Pemphero.

After school hours, tigawane boys gather at nyumba ya ana sharing stories and playing. The routine changed when Elena and Donatella visited them, they taught the boys to draw and paint. Since then, with assistance from Mary Malikula and Mr. P. Munthali, the boys have frequently engaged into drawing using the drawing materials Elena and Donatella sent them.

Andiamo welders up for production

_Since the past week, the welders have been busy making chairs and desks for the Lisanjala school projects in Zomba. Mr. Juma Phiri who headed the chair making exercise swears with ultimate confidence authenticating the durability of his school furniture designs with test to time.

It has been a great pleasure staying with Andrea Mandelli and Veronica Canegrati at Andiamo; now their three weeks of holiday days have numbered out. So today, 24 August, we gathered in Nankhombe House to feast and say our goodbyes during dinner.

Chimwemwe ‘Dj Wawo’ Mwenyemasi; Andiamo Trust’s own cobbler enjoyed live broadcast on MBC Tv this morning, August 23, on the programme “Good morning Malawi”. Chimwemwe’s shoe making talent keeps peeking and amazing yet satisfying a variety of his customers.

The broadcast advantaged his will to give a wide podium to motivate his fellow youths to use best of their talents and scold malpractices. He pleaded to youths to get focused on what they can do because not everyone can make it to our few fine universities.

He applauded Andiamo Trust for efforts and providing all he needed, of which Chimwemwe admits have nurtured his talents to this far.

“I can do all sorts of shoe designs” he challenged displaying the samples of shoes he has made.
During the interview he disclosed the plans of Andiamo Trust to offer shoe making program in due course to supplement tailoring, carpentry, motor vehicle mechanic and electrical.

Get up stand up shares in Kanyumbaaka Farmers’ success

Henry Goster; Get up stand up project coordinator took a field trip this morning, August 22, to Kanyumbaaka village farmers’ tomato fields. They are benefiting from programs that help them increase production through loans of farms inputs the project offers.

Get up stand up targets helping farming families increase production in a sustainable way, and sell more crops, is the most effective way to reduce hunger and poverty over the long period basis. Goster commended the farmers for the cooperativeness and the far they have reached. He said the project jub theilates in success of its farmers.

Farmers have grown more tomatoes that currently earn them more income, they are better able feed to their families, send their children to school, provide for their family’s health, and invest in their farms.

Hastings Kandeu- the group chairman testifies his life and of others have changed since they joined the project. “The project has made our communities economically stronger and more stable” he reports.

Dyeing process: workers seiving the dye into a mixing drum

Many works are underway as we are counting down to full operation of the Comfort Community Hospital. Since Thursday, August 15 some workers have busied with dyeing stacks of white bed sheets to blue colours.

Chimwemwe Truwa who is heading the operation says blue bed sheets are easy to clean. The dyed sheets will be used in female and male wards of the hospital.

Lusubilo Band on National Tour

Lusubilo Band from Karonga commenced on a national tour. They have reached balaka- the town of music and they will be performing at Mangondo Lodge on Saturday August 17.lusubilo

The band has invited Andiamo Music school and Anthu ambiri band to back them up so as to spice up the event.

This to Andiamo Music school as Thom Damba reports is an opportunity to exploit new skills and reach out to their fans as well.

Young engineers at work!

In early July, Andiamo Trust welcomed yet again apprentices from TEVETA rooted from different colleges. Amongst them are Raymond Gausi, Duncan Mwandadza and Mercy Mafaiti who were allocated into electrical department due to their respective expertise.

The young engineers have proved worth by resuscitating to life a single phase motor that stopped functioning on Tuesday, August 13. This is such a development for it serves the mutual purpose at once to students by daring industrial challenges and to the cooperative- durable services. Among other works the students helped wiring at Lisanjala school projects and some maintenance works at the campus.
