Tigawane boys progressing…

Primary schools have closed and Tigawane boys have brought their result slips home. Each one of them has passed and advancing to next class apart from Smith Chabweza who was injured in the course of his exams.boys

At the look of things, the victory goes deeper than the success in the exams the kids just had. These result slips illustrate the mission of Tigawane being realized.

“I am very glad for their impressive performance” says Valeria Giassi, the Tigawane project coordinator. “The good thing is they have proved to know best to put to use this second chance to education” she continues with passion candidly wishing the boys the best future. She goes on to thank St. Augustine Primary school staff members for being so kind and patient to the Tigawane kids whose background [street life] could at times prompt undesirable behaviours.

All roads led to St. Monica nursery school this morning where parents and guardians flocked to witness the graduation of their kids. With the assistance of their teachers, the students did recitations, singing and dramatic performances- peeking shrewdly what they have been doing in class.

Furnishing the kids with basic needs is a deliberate move to keep them out of streets. So maize and beans are supplied to them every month that the kids attend school rather than go begging during school time.

A Lady cobbler in the making

The story of Joyce Kazembe who has been working as a secretary in the cobbler sect of Andiamo is told to counter the ‘in born talent’ expression. She has spent time watching Chimwemwe Mwenyemasi [the young man who yielded fame in as long as shoe making is concerned] do his shoes. Reaching this far she can display skill and do some tasks in the workshops with a gloss of quality. This to Andiamo Youth Cooperative is quite good news; an indicator of growth and we can’t wait for Joyce to make her first shoe.

“I can’t say I can challenge his skills, but I’m on the way” says Kazembe helping with the small tasks in the workshop.

“She can as well do it, she seems ready to learn” says Mwenyemasi complementing her attitude. It all depends on how much time and hard work you invest in what you want to achieve” he continues.

Via Mzuzu- Andiamo Music school on ‘Chibuku Road to Fame’

Andiamo Music School students will tonight be on the road to Mzuzu for their ‘MK12 million Chibuku Road to fame’ music competition to take place tomorrow July 6. Together with their counterparts; Chosen family and Anthu ambiri bands they were endorsed representatives of Balaka ‘town of music’ and the eastern region as a whole, after they qualified in the regional competition which was held at Zembani Lodge on 25th May. One successful band will proceed to Zimbabwe for another competition.

To most of us who have followed Andiamo’s hardcore kinda training they embarked on vigorously, dancing deftness the boys have accrued so far, it cant be haste to prophesy them carrying it home. Nonetheless, lies a national contest ahead and Andiamo Youth Cooperative Trust wishes them the best of luck in their performances.

General cleaning at last

This morning the students in the technical school have engaged themselves in the general cleaning in their workshops and surrounding. Cleanliness of their campus is the best way they pay back for the time, knowledge and moments Andiamo has proffered to them across the academic year just to end.

Something distastefully and dramatic happened in the finals. Both Rhoda Maxison and Pangani Nyakungwa collapsed few yards before the finishing lines in their respective 100m finals.

“At that moment I felt like an air ticket I merited slipping away, but later I learnt to understand” says Rhoda accepting her bad day.
