Teaching the Talent

They have the talent and they can’t just have it for themselves. Dona and Elena on Saturday spent their day with Tigawane kids, teaching them little skills of painting and drawing. It was a wonderful experience for both parties.

“It has been a great time with the kids, they are pretty and fast learners” compliments Donatella. They together drew flowers which they will send to friends in Italy. The duo has done most of the paintings since their arrival at Comfort Clinic- Paediatric ward, St.Monica Nursery School and Tigawane [Nyumba ya ana] House. Other projects will be done at Toleza, Kapandatstsi and St. John’s Nursery schools.

St. Egidio Club up for Alms

Accompanied by their patron Mr. J. Bwezani, St. Egidio students club yesterday in the afternoon cheered up the old lady; Mrs Maria Anthony with gifts, amongst them were bed sheets, clothes, soap and salt which the students bought from their voluntary contributions. The lady fled from Mozambique in 1961 due to war. She lost all her six children and puts up by herself in Lupanga village in Balaka.

“I am too old to work for myself, now that you have come for me I am very thankful” said the grandmother. She in turn advised the St. Egidio students not to pray for rest but get-up-and-go fortitude to continue the journey of charity with faith.

St. Egidio partakes in charity to the sick, lame and old, and most of the times sharing the word of God. They are planning more trips come next week.

A volleyball and netball tournament that started last week engrossed Andiamo to Balaka and Bakhita secondary schools, was coming to an end today in the morning. It was organized by Andiamo staff however it went in favor of Balaka secondary school, which scooped all top positions.

“It has served the purpose of uniting us with fellow counterparts, and has prepared the teams, all in all we are all winners because we have gained a skill in one way or the other”, says Mr. Dennis Phiri consoling the losers. The bonanza has prepared the students into the Presidential initiative for sports in volleyball which will be launched soon.

The father standing watching the kids said the news of successful delivery of their twins was so great and pleasant. In the past few days Donatella and Elena visited Andiamo. They have coalesced with Dave Pabros; the Andiamo artist to paint the interior walls of the Comfort clinics paediatric hospital. Besides the decorative function that appeals to every eye, the images serve in enhancing the physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of kids and their therapeutic effect on hospitalized children is incalculable.

It is the same campus that has changed the lives of many for 30 years now but with a new sign post. It is the Andiamo Youth Cooperative Trust Campus: the home of Alleluya Band; Administration block; Get Up Stand Up Project; Cobbler, Mechanic and Carpentry Sections.

Practice makes perfect. Andiamo Girls Secondary school football team believes in that. As part of preparation, craving for a better position in the Matindi and Presidential Initiative for sports cups that which they are participant in.

Though depressed by previous 2-1 loss against Balaka Secondary school, they have encouraged to work hard in the next matches for there is a window of chances to do better in the future.

“We have carried hopes of our school and rest of Andiamo community and we are not just slipping all this away” promises Tadala Malira; the striking force of the team in an interview after training. She admits the strategies and assiduous efforts Mr. Konde; the coach makes to get the team into form.

It is harvesting time and the clubs under Get up stand up project have started settling their non interest loans in forms of money or maize. Good rains in the growing season has also contributed to profuse harvest Get up stand up farmers have registered this year.

“We hope farmers won’t give us problems settling their loans in time” reports the coordinator of the project; Henry Goster. He continued to commend such honesty acts of repaying the loans in time.

Act of Charity

Yesterday April 28 was a feast of St. Louis Marie De Montfort. Headed by the Young Christian Students (YCS) the students at Andiamo motivated by his exemplary life, they felt obliged to do some charity to the destitute.

Together raising MK6,475 they brightened a day of Panganani Mwalimu who hails Bilila in Ntcheu, he was diagnosed with Cancer, and needs MK320,000 in total for full treatment at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre.

“May the good Lord bless you profusely” says Panganani. He thanked the Y.C.S patron Mr. J. Bwezani who welcomed him in the first place. He also asked well wishers to continue helping towards his treatment in time.
