The construction of the new Boys Hostel at Andiamo Educaton Institutions (AEI) campus is going on well and this has prompted AEI office to ask well-wishers to help with beds.

As was promised by Franco Fiorina, a volunteer from Italy who also built the new girls hostel, that when he leaves on 18 April this year, the hostel would be on the roofing level, everything is in order.

A visit to the site has shown that by the end of business on Wednesday 10 April, they would be through with the iron sheets.

The sceptic tank for the soon to be built ablution block is also almost done.

This means that the problem of accommodation will be history soon and the only challenge is to furnish this new hostel with beds, enough for more than 60 students.

AEI campus has a Secondary school, computer school, a technical school that offers courses in tailoring, carpentry and joinery, electrical installation and motor vehicle mechanics.

The project has been made possible by the generosity of Bruno, a late brother to Annamaria who donated part of his wealth to Andiamo Youth Cooperative Trust of Balaka.

The foundation stone of the new hostel was laid on 22 May 2012 and present on this occasion was Annamaria who had come to Malawi to fulfil the wish of her late brother to share part of his wealth to the youth of Balaka, who were included in his will before he died in February 2011 in Italy. May the soul of Bruno rest in eternal peace.

Gifts from Innocenzo Colandrini

Andiamo workshops have received workshop toolkits composed of spanners, pliers, screwdrivers, files and other workshop equipments from Innocenzo Colandrini from Italy.

Happy faces saying “thank you”

“What is an engineer without tools? We thank Colandrini for their gifts, they have armoured our workshop” says Mr. Mpweya; the motor vehicle mechanic workshop supervisor when he received the equipments. The new tools are quite a spur for the youths to work efficiently and they will probably enhance the quality of Andiamo Trust’s production.

Washing of Feet: Gesture of Love and humility

Rodwalla

Fr. Mario washing the feet of Rodwalla

The Andiamo catholic christians gathered at Nankhombe [Volunteer] House for the mass on the Maundy Thursday. During the ‘Holy Mass’, Fr. Mario Pacifici washed the feet of a dozen of the Christians [Rodwalla, Franco, Kamtema, Yolanda Konde, some AEPER volunteers and others]as a Holy ritual meant to replicate the Bible’s account of Jesus Christ’s gesture of humility towards his 12 apostles on the night before he was crucified last supper.

“Christ today sends us to serve and show love to others” says Fr. Mario in his homily.

To cement the lesson of humility and love Jesus showed that night before his last supper, Fr. Mario cited the example the Pope Francis has set by washing and kissing the feet of 12 inmates that includes two girls, of which, one is a Serbian Muslim.

The mass was also meant to thank God for the promising health of Rodwalla and pray to commend the soul of Fr. Giussepe Cortinovis, who died administering a sacrament of reconciliation, to eternal rest.
