In southern Malawi, and precisely in Balaka, Father Mario Pacifici, Monfort missionary, arrived here thirty five years ago and founded with Cesare Castelli the "Andiamo Youth Cooperative Trust" which now has nearly 700 workers. The Cooperative operates within four areas of development:- People find jobs in the 33 activities of Andiamo, including health care, education, vocational training, construction, agriculture, mechanics, sports, and last but not the musical one. Precisely in this context born the Alleluya Band, a band created in 1978 as a church choir and now became the point of musical reference throughout Malawi. Our representative in Italy is Orizzonte Malawi onlus, that use the valuable collaboration of many associations:

Ethiopian and Kenyan airlines to resume their services in Malawi
Ethiopian and Kenyan airlines will start charging air fares in Malawi Kwacha, this is according to The Nation of Tuesday, June 12, 2012.
The two airlines stopped charging in the local currency seven months ago due to “foreign exchange shortages which made them unable to repatriate money to their countries.
Ethiopian airlines marketing officer Godfrey Lungu has told the paper that the airline is now flying daily into Malawi as talks are at an advanced stage to see how they will revert to charge fares in Kwacha.
Kenyan Airways country manager Ruth Maweu told the local newspaper that her company is looking at modalities on how to start charging flights in Kwacha too.
The two airlines companies suspended its services when Alleluya Band was preparing for their current trip to Italy for education fund raising shows.
The Band left the country for Italy on 23 May, 2012 and so far they have performed 7 out of 44 shows scheduled around Italy.
Alleluya Band operates under Sports and Culture one of the four pillars of Andiamo Youth Cooperative Trust.
Andiamo to be in darkness
Andiamo will not have electricity for seven hours on 11, 12, 14 and 15 June, 2012. This is according to the load shedding programme released by Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM), this is due to “insufficient generation capacity”.
According to the programme released in a local newspaper of The Nation, Andiamo will not have electricity from 05:30 – 12:30 on 11, 12 and 14 except on 15 June when there will be no electricity from 17:30 – 20:30 local time. Other affected places in Balaka include Kankao, Balaka Town, Sosola, Chingeni, Manjawira, Senzani, Nsipe and Cotton Ginnery.
These blackouts are a blow to Form Two students who are currently writing their Junior Certificate Examinations which they started on 5 June and expect to finish on 13 June, 2011.
Malawi has a new Apostolic Nuncio
His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Monsignor Julio Murat, as the new Apostolic Nuncio (Vatican Ambassador) for Malawi. According to the press statement from the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM), the appointment is with effect from 6 June 2012.
The statement further says that new Apostolic Nuncio will continue to stay in Lusaka and that the ordinary administration of the Apostolic Nunciature-Vatican Embassy in Lilongwe will remain with the Chargè d’Affaires Monsignor Bert van Megen.
Monsignor Murat replaces Monsignor Nicola Girasoli who finished his tour of duty in January 2012.
Msgr. Julio Murat was born on 18 August 1961 in Karsiyaka – Turkey. He was ordained priest on 25 May 1986. He holds a Doctorate in Canon Law. He entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See on the 1st January 1994.
He was posted to the Apostolic Nunciatures-Vatican Embassies in Indonesia, Pakistan, Byelorussia, and Austria and from 21 November 2002 he was official at the Vatican Secretariat of State in the section for the reports with the state. He Msgr. Murat was ordained Archbishop on 3 March 2012. He knows Italian, French and English.
