TEVETA selects 40 to study at Andiamo Technical College

College Distribution

Technical Entrepreneurial and Vocational, Education and Training (TEVETA) Authority has released the names of 1,283 pre-apprentices who have been selected to seven and nine private technical and vocational colleges in Malawi and 40 of them will study at Andiamo College.

Unlike in the past years, this year TEVETA has not selected students to study Auto Mechanics and Electrical Installation but only Carpentry and Joinery and Tailoring and Designing.

According to TEVETA the selection of the pre-apprentices remains extremely low, “since there are less colleges to offer technical and vocational training in Malawi”.

Time to Harvest the Fish

On Thursday, 27 July we harvested about 100kg of fish from the Andiamo dam. This was also the time to remember Pang’onoPang’ono Onlus, an Italian organisation that funded the project and Pang’onoPang’ono Junior who donated the net. We thank them for their unwavering support. When you fall in love with Andiamo

When you fall in love with Andiamo, you cannot just leave it. You feel it. You want to know the impact of the projects. You want to associate with the people on the ground. That is exactly what Fr. Mario Pacifici has done today Wednesday, 26 November 2014. Though not enjoying the best of his health he had a tour to appreciate the collaboration that is there between the volunteers the locals. Below is his tour in pictures…

The Patient Volumes at CCH Increase

People waiting to receive treatment

People waiting to receive treatment

Records at Comfort Community Hospital (CCH) show that there have been the biggest changes in patient volumes that have taken place.

For example, total patients treated at the hospital in all departments and clinics increased to 5,950 in October compared to 4,967 in Sept.  This is a 68% increase in patient volumes compared to October last year that was 3,552.

Year-to-Date (YTD), we have treated 53,704 patients. This is a 56% increase in patient volumes compared to Oct YTD last year (34,354).

Paediatric in-patients increased by 42% in October from 97 to 138 children.  This was mostly due to cases of Pneumonia and Other Non-Communicable Diseases.

OPD patients increased by 22% in October from 3082 to 3766 patients (adults and children). This is mostly due to Diarrhoea for the under 5 and Skin Conditions.

Cases of Malaria dropped in October by 117 cases to 149, however it will likely increase again as the rainy season progresses.

Sadly Chicken Pox is going around Balaka.  Cases treated are Jun 16, Jul 47, Aug 45, Sept 74, and Oct 71.  Kapandatsitsi had it first 9 cases in Oct and Toleza has had 2 cases per month for the last 3 months.

Children aged between 0 to 15 years get medication for free and food when they are admitted. As one way of raising funds for this noble cause, Andiamo Youth Cooperative Trust has opened a lodge and restaurant at Cape Maclear.

Mphipe Lodge Officially Open

It is official

It is official

We have a new week before us. We can surely not start this week without reflecting on the function we had on 15 November 2014 at Cape Maclear. On this day we officially opened Mphipe Lodge and Restaurant.

As Bishop Emeritus Alessandro Pagani said on Saturday, this is not any other lodge. It is a lodge built with an intention to do charity. It is this idea of doing charity that makes Mphipe Lodge, very special.

Fr. Mario Pacifici explained how the proceeds from the lodge would help thousands of mothers and kids access medication for “free”. We agree with what Nelson Mandela once said, “Health cannot be a question of income; it is a fundamental human right!” It is our conviction that people will support this noble cause.

The opening of Mphipe has also reminded all of us at Andiamo that together we can achieve more. The project has seen all the four pillars of Andiamo together with the volunteers collaborating to achieve this. Mphipe is OUR dream that has come true.

Like what Dr. Collins Magalasi, the Chief Economic Advisor to the President said we must take care of Mphipe Lodge because it belongs to us. The chain value of it is beyond telling. Thank you very much! Grazie! Zikomo kwambiri!
